Yes, Australia was a major contributor to the Allied effort in World War II; Australian troops fought in North Africa, Europe, and in the Pacific.

About 41,200 Australians died in World War II.
(About 1 man for every 200 Australians at that time)

At one point there was serious danger that the Japanese would invade Australia. In particular the city of Darwin was heavily bombed by Japanese aircraft.
