I have had it done myself. The cable is huge and I'm sure the part itself is pretty expensive. But most of the expense comes from the labor. It is a beast to trace that cable and get to both ends of it. $800.00 is still high - about $600 is what I paid.
you should be able to start your jimmy up right after you install your new battery...if it doesnt, I would replace or clean your battery cable terminals and see if that works!

Have you tried hooking a battery charger up , or getting a battery boost from another vehicle or battery jumpstarter pack ? Are your battery cable connections clean and tight ?
make sure positive cable is connected to positive post on battery. negative cable connected to negative post on battery.
