Spider wasps have curled antennae and black wings but can also have different color markings such as red or yellow . The female spider wasp will hunt spiders to feed it's larvae.
The boxelder bug is a black bug whose wings are orange-striped in the shape of the letter "y." The insect in question (Boisea trivittata) sports two sets of wings, with the upper set being edged in orange.
I saw what I thought was a white slug but after picking it up and examining it, it was not slimy. I then realized it was a moth. It was very white with black protuberances that looked like snail antennae. It also has some black on the ridge of the back which was probably the wings folded up.

Antennae? That sounds like a bug, not a bird. What region is this in? Off the top of my head, red body and black wings could be: Northern Cardinal (male) Scarlet Tanager Summer Tanager Pine Grosbeak Purple Finch (male) The cardinal's crest could be what is meant by antennae.

It is probably an Ichneumon wasp. Their antennae are longer and have more segments than most other wasps. These are not known to sting people.
