Motor Vehicle Deptment can do a title search for a fee and issue you a new title if it comes back clean.
You have to get it from the owner that last had the title in his name.
Whoever is named on the title is the owner.
BOUGHT THE VEHICKLE FROM A DEALER WHO HAS TITLE
If the bond is paid, why is the title not released to the owner of the car? If the owner of the car forfeited the title by skipping out, and another person came and bought that title by paying the bond, then yes, another person can transfer the title to their name ... because they bought it by paying off your bond.
My suggestion is calling a lawyer.
Try to buy it again.
huh???
If you wish to receive a legal standpoint then you should contact an attorney.
It sounds like you bought a stolen car. You cannot register a Title if you do not have a Title signed over to you with the Registered Owner's signature. If this is your situation, you can take the SELLER to small claims court to return your money. But, in the meantime, take the car to the police to see if it is stolen. If it is and you're caught driving / in possession of it, YOU can be charged.
You do not need to change the deed. You should record a death certificate in the land records as a public notice that the joint owner has died and the title automatically passed to you.You do not need to change the deed. You should have never bought a car without receiving the title. But, you did so go to your local DMV and explain this and request a duplicate title. That is all you can do.
Contact the executor of the estate of the person who died and ask for the title. You should have never taken possession and paid for the car without receiving the title.
