Compare the old to the new, if it is exactly the same, then you just have to be patient and keep working on it. It will fit.
It's on the arm of the brake pedal.
Check the brake switch on the brake pedal, if the switch is bad or a fuse is blown, the shifter will not release.
Check the bulbs, the fuse then the brake light switch.
Normally this is an indication of a defective brake light switch.
Check fuse for brake switch, check switch, or light control module,
earth leak or fuse if you are certain the sender switch at top of brake pedal is ok.Put tester on circuit to establish feed or no feed
the brake light switch is just above the brake pedal. I just bought one for my own 97 tracer yesturday and need to install it.
it connected to a break lights switch, attached to a break pedal
Look on the brake pedal, right where the brake lite switch is.
if its burnt out, replace it, if not, check the wireing
Check fuses, and check the shifter lock switch on the brake pedal.
If the brake light fuse is good then it can be the brake light switch. Some are mechanical switches and some are pressure switches. If it is a pressure switch, the switch will be on or near the master cylinder, and you will see a wire going to that switch. If it is mechanical, the switch will be located somewhere on the brake pedal swing arm. it may just need adjustment or it may be bad and need replacing.
