First, you really need to get some OTR time as a company driver. Once you've done that, one of the options you might want to consider is a lease-purchase plan through a company. The reason being that, if it doesn't work out for you, you can back out of a lease, and not have to have your truck repossessed. Additionally, you'll have a warranty on that vehicle, whereas, if you go out and buy a used tractor (which you would probably do, starting off), you won't. If you can make it as a lease operator, then you'll have a fair assessment of whether or not you could make it as an owner/operator.

Another thing you should learn before buying your own truck is how to do your own maintenance and repairs. You'll save a lot of money this way - especially at a time when the economy is in a bit of a crunch. Repair bills have sunk many an aspiring owner/operator.

What is mini trucking?

Mini trucking? That's a new one on me. You might be thinking of what's referred to as "hotshot" trucking, which is a single axle trucking pulling a multi-axle trailer. This can be anything from a one ton pickup pulling a gooseneck trailer up to a single axle tractor-trailer power unit pulling a semi trailer.

Can you use a single axle tractor for long hauls?

Yes. It's done quite frequently, and is known as "hotshot" trucking.

Where can one learn about the dump trucking business?

Best way to be to talk to a fleet owner who is into what you're into - there's going to be a difference between dump trucking for road construction, dump trucking for a coal mine, dump trucking for landscape materials delivery, etc. If you'd like, I have experience in several dump truck jobs and also as a small fleet owner of tractor-trailer end dumps, and you can email me at the address listed on my profile page with any questions you might have in regards to this.

Fuel tank capacity for over the road tractor trucks?

Varies depending on the specs requested by the buyer. Fuel is weight and hauling weight you are not getting paid for is not a good thing in trucking. A typical road tractor will have between a 200 to 300 gallon capacity with 300 being the largest allowed by DOT.

What cdl for winn dixie truck driver?

Winn-Dixie's tractor-trailer drivers required a Class A CDL. However, they divested themselves of their trucking fleet some time ago, and perhaps for the better... that was a pretty raggedy fleet they had.

What certification is required to pursue a Trucking Career?

You must obtain a CDL (Commercial Driving License). No company will allow you to drive a tractor trailer without a CDL because it is against the law. You can google truck driving schools to look into obtaining your CDL. Many trucking companies will pay your way through CDL school if you go to work for them. can me and my husbango to school together and what companey will traing and hire us
