Yes, if you have all the necessary documentation required (proof of insurance, personal property tax receipt, et al) to renew rather than apply for a new registration the financial problems that may be existing are not relevant.
glue them....
You need to show the DMV proof from the court that you are current on all your payments in order to renew. If this is not the case, they will not renew it.
yes you can dmv es not get involved in a civil matter Actually all they want is your cash
In most states the plates stay with the car. If it gets repo'd it will definitely be taken with the plates on it. If you are in a state where you keep the plates, they will give them back to you with your bag of personal items. I am not aware of state where they give you back the plates. Remember that the plates are registered to the car, so once the car is gone the plates are essentially useless to you. Also, if you happen to be asking this in order to somehow try to evade the repo or avoid it in some way...don't try. You may hide it for a few days, maybe a month, but eventually they will get it and you'll just owe them more money in the long run. Also, putting wrong plates on the car is not going to work (haha). Repo guys check the VIN number. Thanks.
In order to renew the license plate on the vehicle the inspection must be up to date in the DMV system. Then a new tag arrives in the mail and is placed on the plate.
Call your state DMV for state specific advice. Maybe the repoman just doesnt know the law. What don't call a local attorney?????..No they cannot keep your plates!!!!!!! Report the plates as stolen to the police and sue the LENDER in court. They are not allowed to keep your plates under any circumstances. A repo guy who doesn't know the law......... imagine that??????
A repo man may surrender plates to the DMV if the vehicle they have repossessed is not roadworthy or if the owner has not maintained the required auto insurance. Surrendering the plates ensures that the vehicle cannot be driven illegally.
It doesn't matter how the vehicle is marked or what plates are on it. What matters is the laws of the state in which the repossesion is being performed. The answer is "NO", it is not legal for a repo in Washington to be carried out by an unmarked vehicle. I suggest you speak to an attorney. As of January 2007, a Portland-Oregon based repo company is being sued in Federal court for this same offense, as well as illegal repo, breaching the peace, and assaulting a woman while trying to illegally repo her vehicle.
The license plates are yours to keep and transfer to another vehicle if you wish.
The tags on license plates expire at the end of the month. Many states allow people to renew tags online or by mail.
Yes! Better make sure you hide all the vin numbers and remove your plates:) Seriously hiding the vin will make no difference, only make it harder for the repo man to id.
Last i looked the plates STAY WITH THE DEBTOR. Maybe he planned to drive your car all weekend. Was it a nice ride? CALL the LENDER Monday morning and get it straight. The plates belong to you, not the lender, nor the repo man. They are registered to you and are your property and responsibility. If the plates were used on another vehicle that was involved in a crime or accident, and someone wrote down the tag number, the information would come back to you, and you would have alot of explaining to do. If the car was reposessed with the plates still attached, and you can prove that, then the headache is with the repo man. He is responsible for the car and the personal property left with it. Once they take the car with the plates still attached, it's on them.
