The cylinders are numbered on a Ford engine 1-4 on bank #1 and 5-8 on bank #2. The most common mistake people make is treating it like GM product that numbers the cylinders 1,3,5,7 and 2,4,6,8, so don't do that. Bank #1 on a Ford is usually the passenger side.
