Yes, because you are no longer a lawful permanent resident. Please contact the nearest USCIS office and have the situation resolved because if you wait until they catch you, not only they will deport you; you may be subject to additonal penalties.

Under exceptional circumstances, they may allow you to renew your card if you go and let them know.

The reason for deportation is that, unlike Canada, Green Card holders must always carry their valid card with them. It's the law and it must be obeyed.

If you were successful in renewing your card, consider applying for citizenship immediately. When you become a citizen, you don't have to carry proof of citizenship.

If someone was deported and served their deportation time but their US green card hasn't expired can they just come back?

No. If you come back after being deported, but the green card isn't expired yet, you will, again, be deported (which will not look good on your part being deported twice).

Can you get deported if you commit a crime and your green card is expired?

No. You can not be deported for an expired Green Card. You can be deported for an expired Visa. You can over-stay your Visa, it's illegal in the U.S. and pretty much every other country. However, if your Green Card has expired (which is not the same as a visa), you should go to the local INS office and renew it and do it the legal way.

Can you enter the US with an expired green card?

In theory, They are considered out of status or "unlawfully present."However, in practice if you apply to have it renewed which is not a complex process you can show you are having it renewed and would not be deported. Renew the green card, or better,if you satisfy the residency requirements, apply for citizenship.

Can a person who is married to someone who has a valid green card be deported if his papers have expired?

Yes. Given the cited circumstances, a foreign national who remains in the U.S. after his visa has expired is considered "unlawfully present" and is subjected to deportation, per the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). INA § 212(a)(9)(B); 8 USC §1182(a)(9)(B).

How can someone who lost their green card get it back if they were deported for a criminal charge and how long would the process take?

If you were deported for criminal activity, there is no way you will be readmitted to the U.S. with a green card. I don't know about the possibilities if you marry.
