Can a Muslim marry a Non-Muslim Japanese person?

There are two type of marriage in Islam--permanent and temporary. For permanent marriage, a Muslim can only marry a Muslim. But for temporary marriage a Muslim man can marry a woman from people of Book (i.e. Christian or Jew).

A Muslim man can marry a Japanese woman on condition that the Japanese woman is Muslim, or Christian, or Jewish. However, a Muslim Japanese woman can marry only a Muslim man. It is conditioned that the Japanese Muslim woman can marry only a Muslim man to be saved from the non-Muslim man who may practice pressure on the Muslim woman to change from Islam to other religions.

According to Japanese Law (and the civil law in most jurisdictions), there is no issue concerning a marriage between a Japanese person and a Non-Japanese person, regardless of religion. In Islam, there are prohibitions on marriage between Muslims and Umm al-Kuffar, or the people who do not believe in the Abrahamic God. As most Japanese are Shintoists and/or Buddhists and are Atheists in terms of their belief in the Abrahamic God, it would be against Islamic Law for a Muslim to marry a Japanese person unless that person was a Muslim or converted to Islam. (If we are talking about a Japanese woman, she would be acceptable for marriage if she were either Muslim, Christian, or Jewish or converted to one of those religions.)

My personal view is that if you love someone, that you should marry them and find a way to make the religion suit your life. Liberal Muslims like Tawfik Hamid and Irshad Manji take this approach, especially on the question of interfaith marriage.
