After you have driven the car and the transmission is hot, pull the dipstick out that says "Trans Fluid". It will be longer than the dipstick for the engine oil. You read it the same way as the oil dipstick using the holes at the bottom as level indicators.
Most cars have some blow by or compression in the oil pan from wear in the motor. This being the case there may a small amount of oil blown out of the dipstick tube.
