Are their special education opportunities for convicted felons?

Yes, a convicted felon can go to almost school. The exceptions are, convictions involvng sexual assualts, pedophile, acts of violence or any charges that would require you to register as a sex offender. Now the real issue is wheather you can use the degree after you obtain it. If it is a professional degree, you may have problems becoming licensed by the state. Or just as bad,... not being able to find employment in your chosen field because of the NCIC records.

There are several different things you could do. While incarcerated you can go back to school. There are different state programs called "Vocational Rehab" they help you if your a recovering drug addict alcoholic or other substance abuse or other disability like bi polar, depression, anxiety, ADHD, or more serious disability's that make it hard for you to get a good job. They pay for your entire school, help with part of your childcare, and help with rent! My brother and sister have used this program in Missouri! I live in Texas and I am researching to see if other states have the same program. You have to either be going to AA meetings counseling or be on a medicine to help your issue.

It depends on what you mean. If you are asking, "Do convicts (inmates) have access to education, and if they require special education assistance is it available?" then, yes, to some extent. In most states, inmates who do not have a high school diploma will be required to attend GED classes. If there is a substantial deficit intellectually or cognitively, they will be assigned to a Mental Health staff member's case load. If you are asking if inmates get actual help, then the answer is no. The only effort that goes into educating inmates is the effort they themselves put forth, and the few people who personally put forth effort. Little to no institutional effort is expended. If you are asking if former inmates have access to educational opportunities, then maybe. Sorry, that is the best answer I can give you.
