LCD will be the better choice here. As I recall plasma is not recommended for this application. The plasma glass is weighty and can crack if a plasma television when laying face down is jarred or dropped.
No because the LCD or plasma technology is relatively new. It also depends on the maufacturer. Panasonics plasma tv has a 100,000 lifespan versus 60,000 of an LCD. Plasma and LCD are not the same type of tv either.

Plasma is super heated gas and LCD is liquid crystal. Buy LCD since Plasma loses its ability to retain heat over time. LCD downfall---the backlight burns out and they are easily damaged.
