No. Presuming you mean the fancy Betta splendens, these are highly territorial fish that will chase and harass each other until one dies. Other species of Betta, however, are more peaceful and can cohabit in large aquariums, these wild species are less likely to be found in the average pet shop though.

Absolutely not, regardless the size of your aquarium, whether it be one gallon or twenty gallons. The bettas will fight with each other continuously, tear each other's fins, injure each other, and the more aggressive and territorial one will not hesitate about killing the other male betta. They will flare up when they see each other and will continuously fight and try to kill each other. The only possible way you could keep two bettas together is by keeping them in an aquarium of at least fifty gallons, with a divider in the middle just in case. However, even with the divider, they will try to attack each other, so if you decide to go ahead and put them together (highly disencouraged!), then you will need an extremely sturdy and opaque divider, so they do not see each other. However, keeping two male bettas together under any circumstances is really not recommended.

∙ 16y agoMale and female betta fish should not be kept in a tank together unless the tank is large enough for a female to escape attack, there is a partition or they are breeding. Males will kill the females. They are very aggressive and are not schooling fish.

You could however put them in the same tank with a barrier between them. Perhaps some wire, glass, or perspex. If you do this, ensure both sides of the barrier receive equal water filtration.

Although they will mix with most other species OK male Bettas will not tolerate another Betta in their tank.
