If you are over a certain age, and have lived in the US for a certain period of time, you can take the test in the language of your choice. You do still need to display a basic knowledge of English. Also, younger people, or those who have been in the US for a shorter period than those that qualify for any of the exemptions can take the test in another language, but only if your level of understanding of spoken English is not sufficient to take the test. Also, if you take the test in another language, you must bring an interpreter to your interview. I'm currently helping my father, who is Greek, been in the US for 30 years, and over 65, to prepare.
