In extreme circumstances it is possible if the aircraft had being traveling at a high speed to start with. There was one case where an American F-15e fighter plane was engaged in aerial combat and had sustained major damage to the airframe. it was only when the plane had landed that the pilot saw the whole right wing had been blown clean off and it was the speed at which he travelled before the engine failed (due to loss of fuel). The aircraft stayed in the air as the rest of the aircraft acted as a rocket.

No. Aviation people call those kinds of planes "hangar queens" - they park them in the corner of the hangar if they're small enough, or on the edge of the apron if they're big planes, and pull parts off them to repair planes that are airworthy.

What causes airplanes to take off?

Lift is what ultimatly causes the plane to take off. When a plane get up to take off speed, that means the wings are generating enough lift to lift the plane up. The pilot will change the planes angle of attack with the elevators (located on the horizontal stabilizers) to the wind which forces engine thrust to push the plane into the air.

Can a plane fly without wings?

While there have been some wingless "lifting body" experimental aircraft. All conventional airplanes get the the majority of their lift from their wings and cannot fly without them. No. By definition, A PLANE is a fixed-wing aircraft. The wings are absolutely necessary for lift.

Why wouldn't a plane be able to fly in space?

There is no air for the wings to work with, to control the plane. The engine also needs air to burn the fuel.

Why do aeroplanes need wings?

An aeroplane needs wings because it helps with the main part of a plane- take off. 1.The reason why is that there are ailerons at the back of a planes wings and these help with the roll or the way a plane is steered so if we didnt have wings we couldn't steer a plane.2. The way you steer a plane you have to use rudders and these rudders allow the plane to have yaw used by the pedals .Yaw is like if you were to jump up on a trampoline and spin ,hense the motion of yaw , also to do with steering and wings. the last thing is that a plane has to have a pitch which is the way a plane takes off and to have pitch the flaps connected to the AILERONS at the BACK OF THE PLANES WINGS must be usable By Samantha Dudley. First Maori Female international pilot.

What will you call a plane that has two sets of wings?

How different in plane jet plane and glider?

A glider has no engine, that is the main difference. They also have long thin wings to hold them up for a long time, whereas the jet usually has short, swept back wings for speed.

Can a goat fly without wings?

Yes, a goat can fly very easily without wings, just as you and I can. The only difference is that we get a seat in the cabin of the plane and the goat has to stay in the baggage compartment.

How did the wright plane work?
