No.

Currently a police officer can run your plate through the LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network) and get several returns. One return is from NCIC which tells if there are any national 'hits' or 'wants' for that plate (i.e. is the plate reported as stolen someplace). It also checks through a statewide file for wanted hits. One of the returns is from the SOS (Secretary of State). This return will give all of the registration information on the vehicle. Registration information includes VIN, year, make, (sometimes model) and style of the car. The SOS return also gives information as to the registered owner of the vehicle and lien-holder (bank) if any. Lastly the SOS return gives an expiration date of the plate.

By running a plate, an officer CAN also run the registered owner of the vehicle and see if they have a valid license, who they are, and if they are wanted.

Despite all that information, the officer CANNOT determine whether a vehicle is currently insured or not by running a Michigan plate.

Yes, in Michigan, police officers can run your license plate to determine if your vehicle has valid insurance. This information is typically accessible through the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) database. If the officer discovers that your vehicle is uninsured, they may take appropriate action, such as issuing a citation or impounding your vehicle.

What does a cop need to ask for when he pulls you over for speeding?

A police officer doesn't have to ask you for anything. The officer generally asks for a driver's license and/or proof of insurance, but, by no means is that a requirement.

If you are 25 received a 6 point speeding ticket in Wisconsin and live in Michigan will the insurance company find out?

Yes! If the driver's license number you gave to the Police Officer is the same that you use for the insurance company, then it doesn't matter where you are in the United States, every insurance company will find out when they perform their routine insurance coverage check. They will also find out once that particular ticket is reported to the insurance companies, and placed on your record.

Can cops tell if you have car insurance by reading a car license plates?

No, they can't because your insurance is linked first to your vin number and not to your license, but in some states when you cancel your insurance they inform the DMV, in the case the police office can check in the case !

What happens in an accident where nobody has insurance?

If two cars crash and neither driver has insurance, the police officer arriving on the scene will of course both issue you tickets for no insurance, and your license can be suspended. The officer will also determine who was at fault, generally the faulty party is responsible for damages. Otherwise you are both on your own for being negligent for not having insurance at the time of the accident.
