Can accidentally grinding the starter of a car for a second cause damage?

ok ,you must be on about turning the key with the engine already running ,,once or twice you would get away wit ,as a rule you shouldn't have caused no long term damage

If you ever jump start a bike, it's second gear- cannot imagine it hurting the bike.

If the starter is evolved to at least its second form then ditto and the starter will have an egg.

First, check the ground to the starter and confirm that you have power to the starter. If you do, the starter should work fine. Second, you can always remove the starter and check if the gear can spin and the spindle depresses at all. If not, replace the starter.
