While possible, it is unlikely, unless they accidently mixed your tests up with someone elses. The tests they use nowadays are fairly accurate. If you think it really is a false positive, and it gives you some extra peace of mind then you should retest it.

However, many people have herpes without showing any symptoms and if you show no visible signs within the first year, then the disease will probably not affect the rest of your life in a negative way.

A false positive result can happen in any test, not just gonorrhea. Depending on the testing technology and methodology used, a false positive would be possible to a different degree. Look for the "% Specificity" a testing provider states (specificity measures the chance for a false positive result). The higher the number, the better. For example, a 99% specificity means that only 1 of 100 individuals tested with that methodology would show false positives.

If a pap smear shows herpes, it is likely to be a true diagnosis. A normal pap smear doesn't mean that a woman doesn't have herpes, but herpes on a pap smear means she is infected.
