Boiling does only kill bacteria. Boiling alone does not take away bacteria.
As with all living creatures, bacteria also eat, transform and excrete.
As for sausages (and other meat-products) they are suspect to a highly dangerous bacteria named "Clostridium botulinum"
This bacteria produces one of the most dangerous toxins known to man.
Botulinum toxin is a protein and neurotoxin. It is the most acutely toxic substance known.
Even if you boil sausages, you do not get rid of the wasteproducts of the bacteria.
If sausages smell foul, they might be dangerous to eat,
Prolonged proper heat treatment will however destroy the toxin,
When eating meat-products, trust your nose before you boil the product. If it smell foul, then throw it away. Better be safe than "sorry".
Pure water and most chlorinated drinking water lacks the nutrients needed for bacterial growth. If the water is left uncovered though enough dust may get into the water for some bacterial growth.
