For many UTIs, especially those with gram positive cultures, Bactrim (trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole) can be quite effective. The whole prescription needs to be taken, even if symptoms improve after the first day, in order to minimize risk of a relapsing infection. Also, Bactrim should not be taken by those with sulfa Allergies.
