Salt does NOT cause urinary tract infections (UTIs).

Normal Urine

Fluid waste, after being processed by the kidneys, creates basically sterile urine. Sterile means, without any microorganisms and free of toxins.

What is a Urinary Tract Infection

A urinary tract infection, called cystitis, results when one or more bacterial microorganisms enter the bladder. If it enters the kidneys, it causes a Kidney Infection.

There are several ways people get urinary infections.

  1. Improper wiping for females. DO NOT: If you wipe from back to front, you move fecal matter which contains E Coli to the vagina and urethra. DO: Always wipe from front TO back and away from the vagina/urethra.
  2. Complete lack of hygiene. Most people don't get infections even without washing, unless bacteria enter the urinary system. BUT, hygiene can keep bacteria from building up on our skin, so hygiene is one factor.
  3. During sex, bacteria are pushed into urethra. Women are more prone to UTIs after sex than are men.
  4. A person has a chronic infection in the bladder wall. This is called interstitial cystitis.
  5. A person has a primary condition that lowers resistance and allows over-growth of bacteria.

Organisms that cause UTIs are primarily:

  1. E. coli - a bacteria that is present in our colon and is expelled in bowel movements. Usually, improper wiping after a bowel movement 'moves' the bacteria on toilet tissue from the anus to the urinary opening, urethra, in females.
  2. Chlamydia and Mycoplasma can cause UTI in both males and females who are sexually active. Both of these can infect the vagina or the urinary tube in males. People can 'pass' the organism to each other during intercourse.

Basic treatment for Urinary Tract Infection includes:

  1. An antibiotic that is specific to the bacteria type that infects YOU. Never take a med prescribed for someone else because you may have a different bacteria. Usually treatment is 7-10 days.
  2. A bladder anti-spasmodic. Infection makes the bladder spasm because proteins the bacteria make will irritate the bladder walls. An anti-spasmodic calms the bladder walls, allowing urine to collect more as it should. These meds will temporarily turn the urine blue, green, or orange depending on which med you use. This dye will stain clothing. Usually treatment is 7-10 days.
  3. Increased fluids will help "flush" the bladder and help reduce bacterial growth, but ONLY if you are also taking an antibiotic.

If your symptoms worsen or persist longer than 7-10 days, return to your doctor.

Uhm im really not sure,

but ive asked someone about that before, Urinary tract infections are caused by the presence of a microorganism.

while eating salty foods causes you to form kidney stones. which results to scanty urine, pain in urinating and other symptoms.

though im not sure if this condition that brings forth from salty foods is considered also a urinary tract infection.

hope this helps.
