yes they in fact can live inside the house- unless you have a cat or a dog. Guinea pigs hate dogs and cats because they will eat him if they can get in his cage. Anyway, what they need is
#1 cages: if it is a fat piggie you will need a big cage, if it is a little piggie it can have a medium cage. Make sure the cage is sitting on a strong shelf or table, DONT set it on a ledge or somplace the cage can fall off of.
#2 bedding: once you have your cage set up you need to line the bottom of it with newspaper. Once that's done you need to put some bedding down so your guinea pig can burrow or roll around in. There are lots of beddings to choose from the best and most comfterble are: shreded paper and apple tree wood shavings. DO NOT EVER EVER EVER NEVER USE PINE SHAVINGS OR CEDAR!!!!!!!! mostly because the cedar wood has a strong smell and the guinea pig will think its deathly, and the pine can give him lung cancer.
#3 friends: if its a female guinea pig you might want to give her a nother female guinea pig to play with make sure they get in the cage at the exact same time and that they are the same age! because they will fight if its not done! olso if its a female guinea pig don't give her a male guinea pig!!!!!!! unless you want millions of baby piggies everywhere, visa versa with a male. If it is a male DONT give him another male because they will fight, but if you cant afored another guinea pig they will enjoy your compony very very very much!
#4 exersise: a guinea pig dosent need an exersise wheel like a hamster dose, but it dose need exersize! it can run around in the house but if you don't want it leaving little suprises in you shoe, then put it outside were it can eat grass but make sure you have like a little covered fence or an upside down cage to put over him so he doesn't run off or get picked up by a hawk!
#5 hiding: make sure you put a little house inside its cage so he can sleep in it.
#6 food: feed your guinea pig a heaping tablespoon of guinea pig mix twice a day, if it dosent eat it all that dosent mean hes sick it just means he isn't hungry.
if you want to know what a guinea pig can eat or cant eat or anything else about guinea pigs then serch Google. (or just to the library) :) :) :) DONT FORGET TO CUDDLE IT AND LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!! :)

If I undersstand your question correctly, I think you're asking if guinea pigs need to live with a roommate. Guinea pigs don't need to live with roomies, but they are most happy when they have a buddy. Obviously, you shouldn't put a male and a female guinea pig in the same cage. Two girls will be less aggressive than two boys.
