NO! they WILL find a way to reach it and WILL take of some of it to eat it and...
ITS TOXIC to them.
Hermit crabs excrete is so small, you have to look hard to see it, hermit crabs store it in their shells then scoop it out. It is dry.
when it's not fully dry , but a little wet.
You need to take out the hermit crabs and put them in a diffrent container. take out toys, wood, water dishes, food dish and boil them in water NO SOAP it hurts the hermit crabs. Next you need to take out substrate and get new substrate. wash out tank and leave it to dry in a sunny location. Lastly put all the stuff back in it and add your hermies back in.
Hermit crabs lay their eggs in the ocean and the babies live there until around week 6 when they emerge onto dry land and take up their first shell.
Hermit Crabs can use cocanut husk, or soil that you get from any pet store used for reptiles. Hermit Crabs also use sand, they need a wet and also dry climate. If you get oil from the ground, you must bake it or freeze it in a really hot or cold temp. for a long while.
The kind of hermit crabs most people think of are Land Hermit Crabs. They live on land, and need at least enough water to submerge themselves. Land Hermit Crabs do need sea salt to keep their body chemistry balanced, and as such, need access to both salt and fresh water. Marine Hermit Crabs require a full saltwater aquarium to survive. Such tanks are elaborate, and should be researched thoroughly before purchase. Saltwater pets of all sorts are often regarded as difficult to care for.
It'll go back to the sea or find a place that's filled with water you know that hermit crabs need water before they dry up!
No, unfortunately they can't... Hermit crabs lay their eggs in the ocean, they are born without shells, and eat plankton. If you have a very large aquarium, and can manage to make a mini-saltwater ocean inside as well as dry land, it could be possible... Remember that the ocean must have a proper amount of salt! (table salt is harmful to hermit crabs too...)
Hermit crabs are very versatile animals; they will eat anything. However, this doesn't mean they should eat anything. The one thing you absolutely can't give your hermit crabs is citrus fruit, as the acid will soften and erode their teeth, will dry out their mouth, and will be very painful to them. There are other foods you should also avoid, such as pickles, tomatoes, and any other food that has a significant amount of acid in it.
A hermit crab is very vulnerable without the snail shell, so you can expect it to get eaten, (or dry up for land hermit crabs), or injured before too long. Some species of hermit crabs actually don't use snail shells at all, however.
in a ten or five gallon tank, you can use one of the lids especially made for those tanks. Those are the only cages hermit crabs can live in, so if you don't have a glass 10 gallon tank, get one! Make sure the lid has airholes
Fans or air flowing definitely help glue to dry.
