I have chronic sleep problems. The sleep clinic ordered a number of blood tests, including ferritin. My level was 22, still in the normal range, but the letter from my doctor said "Levels under 50 promote restless, unrefreshing sleep. The most effective treatment is a dose of IV iron. It takes about 2-3 hours to complete....However, you may choose to take an oral over the counter iron supplement with Vitamin C....We will need to recheck your Ferrin level in 3 to 6 months to make sure it has normalized." I have an appointment for the IV iron next month, and have started OTC iron supplements as well.
