Kidney infections are dangerous because damage done to the kidney is irreversible. i get them often from a bladder defect I had at birth. im 23 and need all of this info to basically keep surviving. I've never been recommended and never taken penicillin for a kidney inf, so if a doctor tells you to take that for this, get a new doctor. kidney infs start as urinary tracts infections (UTI's), if it gets to your kidneys, it's already pretty bad. that means the urine is refluxing (backing up) into your kidneys, and the infection has spread. here are some meds that can be used as treatment:

sulfa drugs

amoxicillion

cephalosporins

levofloxacin

ciprofloxacin

"Urinary tract infections (UTI's) are treated with antibacterial drugs. The choice of drug and length of treatment depends on the patient's history and the urine tests that identify the offending bacteria. The sensitivity test is especially useful in helping the doctor select the most effective drug. The drugs most often used to treat routine, uncomplicated UTI's are trimethoprim (Trimpex), trimethoprim/sufamethoxazole (Bactrim, Septra, Cotrim), amoxicillin (Amoxil, Trimox, Wymox), nitrofurantoin (Macrodantin, Furadantin), and ampicillin."

Penicillin has and may still be prescribed for bladder infections. However, it is very important that you do not self-medicate, especially when it comes to antibiotics. This is one of the elements that has led to the rise of MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), and MRSA can cause death.

Seek medical attention if you are suffering from any sort of infection, and let your doctor prescribe an appropriate treatment.

A traditional home remedy for urinary tract infections though is to drink cranberry juice. It may not cure it, but it can alleviate some of the symptoms.

Yes antibiotics is what is used for that but you have to check with a doctor first so you get the right kind and dose and see that that is exactly what it is.

Penicillin may work, but for UTI the most recommended treatment is ciprofloxacin. It works better than penicillin as it effectively eradicates bacteria causing infections.
