The simple answer is yes. I have seen it done, only takes 10 minutes and you can set the pin to 0000. Chip and pin is no where near as secure as banks make out. I have had 2 cards cloned. Barclays have admitted to my card being cloned and have sorted the issue, whereas MasterCard are point blank denying it. They are refusing to change the card, which is the bare minimum they should be doing. I am going to take this to the FSA and contact BBCs watchdog and also look at contacting national newspapers about this. its like saying online backup is 100% secure, when its the least secure form of banking around.
Typically the point of sale terminal will ask for the pin number. If the user has the pin number, the charge will be handled as a debit charge instead of a credit charge. (It's a little cheaper for the merchant; it will make no difference to the card holder.) If the card does not allow debit transactions or the user does not have the pin, the transaction will be declined.
No - its still a credit transaction. The PIN is simply used to verify you are the registered owner of the card.
Visit a branch of your financial institution and request to reset your pin number.
someone's card number
you put it in the card slot. it will ask for a in. write in pin and use on screen instructions. hope i helped
if your debit card has the visa and star logos on the back (checkcard) you can run it as a credit card and your signature and ID will be required instead of a PIN number
The maximum they can find out about you is your name but they can withdraw all the cash in your bank account.
Call or visit your bank and they will be able to reset the pin number

Yes, when you swipe your card just select credit as form of payment and not debit
...Uhm. That would be a big negative. Where were you when you got that debit card? You make it up at the bank.

A PIN number is always necessary to use a debit card and in some instances a signature or proof of identity is also required. The amount spent/used in a debit card transaction is directly deducted from the holder's bank account.
Only if it is a "check card." Debit cards require a PIN number, but many banks have switched to check cards that can be used as either a debit or credit card. To find out for sure, next time you use your card, hit the "credit button." If it's a check card it will ask you to sign instead of entering your PIN. The check/debit card must have a Visa, Mastercard or a Discover symbol to work as a Credit purchase but still comes out of your checking account. Discover is just starting up there debit card network.
The PIN is not held on the card ! It is stored (in encrypted form) on the computer system of the bank where the customer has the account !
