Not sure what this questions means. The Orthodox Church is the Church, so it can't exist outside of itself.

Can orthodox theology exist outside the church?

No, because it is the Orthodox Church that determines correct doctrines, dogmas and teachings. The church fathers were orthodox theologians within the church, and not on their own. This is what distinguishes the Orthodox from other Christian groups, such as the Protestants, where anyone can study theology and call themselves a theologian. This does not exist in Orthodoxy, as theology and the church are one.

What is Orthodox Christianity?

Orthodox Christianity is the descriptive name given to the faith and beliefs of the Orthodox Church. It is similar to other names such as Roman Catholic Christianity or Protestant Christianity. The name Orthodox means having the correct beliefs and the correct way to glorify God. The Orthodox Church was founded by Jesus Himself in the year 33 AD, on the Day of Pentecost. According to Orthodox Christian beliefs, the Orthodox Church has always existed from the beginning of time (called the Church Triumphant) but the physical church on earth (called the Church Militant) was established in Jerusalem in 33 AD and continues to exist to this day without any changes to its dogmas and beliefs.

When did the Orthodox Catholic Church start?

The Orthodox Church was founded by Jesus Himself in the year 33 AD, on the Day of Pentecost. According to Orthodox Christian beliefs, the Orthodox Church has always existed from the beginning of time (called the Church Triumphant) but the physical church on earth (called the Church Militant) was established in Jerusalem in 33 AD and continues to exist to this day without any changes to its dogmas and beliefs. From the Orthodox perspective, both the Orthodox and Catholics started at the same time, in the year 33 AD, when there was no such thing as Orthodox and Catholic, and there was only the universal Christian Church. So they both shared a common foundation for the first 1,000 years of their history. However, after that time, difference arose that led to the Great Schism of 1054 AD. This caused a split in the universal Church, which resulted in the formation of an Orthodox East and a Latin West. The Orthodox Church claims that the Latins (later known as Roman Catholics) split from the Body of the Church because of Papal claims of supremacy over the Church, and changes to the Nicene Creed (the filioque clause), which were not accepted by anyone else at that time.

During the communism regime there was a great pressure on the Orthodx faith and it had really weakend the church to the point where we did not know if we could continue to exist. God willing the church has survived and it is truyl a miracle to see the rebirth of christianiy in Russia and the popularity of the Russian Orthodox Church abroad. Patriarch Kirill is doing a great job spreading the chrisian faith within Russia and also abroad. What drives people to the Russian Orthodox Church even among the other Orthodox Christians is that tradition and that sincere faith that caputres ones heart even upon an entry into a Russian Orthodox Church.

Which church canonized St. Thecla?

There are at least 3 saints named Thecla. All were early martyrs who were never canonized because the process was not in place at the time. They were declared as saints by the early Christian community based on their martyrdom. The Orthodox Church did not exist at the time so they would have been recognized by the early Catholics. After the Orthodox Church split from from the Catholics, they continued to honor these early saints.

Is the Coptic church the true church of Jesus?

The Coptic Church was an early breakaway from the main 'Catholic-Orthodox' Church of the time, as were the Nestorian and Jacobite Churches. Whereas the Nestorian and Jacobite Churches have almost ceased to exist, the Coptic Church still retains as members around ten percent of the Egyptian population. However, survival does not provide evidence of being the true Church, or otherwise. There were many early Christian communities and, although the 'Catholic-Orthodox' Church did become overwhelmingly dominant in the fourth century, we can not really know which was the first Christian group.

What is the origin of The Eastern Orthodox Church?

The Orthodox Church was founded by Jesus Himself in the year 33 AD, on the Day of Pentecost. According to Orthodox Christian beliefs, the Orthodox Church has always existed from the beginning of time (called the Church Triumphant) but the physical church on earth (called the Church Militant) was established in Jerusalem in 33 AD and continues to exist to this day without any changes to its dogmas and beliefs. Its purpose is to bring salvation to its members through belief in the Lord Jesus Christ as Son of God and Saviour of the world. Both the Orthodox and Catholics claim to have started at the same time, when there was no such thing as Orthodox and Catholic, and there was only the Universal Christian Church. So they both shared a common foundation for the first 1,000 years of their history. However, from the year 1054 AD, which is generally regarded as the Great Schism (or split) in the Universal Church, the two have been known by the names of Orthodox and Catholic. The Orthodox Church claims that the Roman Catholics split from the Body of the Church mainly because of Papal claims of supremacy over the Church, and unauthorized change to the Nicene Creed (the 'filioque' clause), which was not accepted by anyone else at that time.

List three ways that the Roman Catholic Church differed from the Greek Orthodox Church during the early Christian era?

During the early Christian era, before the Great Schism, the Roman Catholic Church and the Greek Orthodox Church did not exist as separate entities - there was only a Church that is now called the Catholic-Orthodox Church. Nevertheless, there were differences between the two sections of the one Church:The western Church, which was later to become the Roman Catholic Church, used Latin, while the eastern Churches used Greek; The western Church celebrated Easter at a different time of year than the eastern Churches. The bishop of Rome regarded himself as of higher standing in the Church than the other Metropolitans of the Church; The eastern primates generally had more autonomy from decision of the emperor than did the bishop of Rome.

Was there a single united Church in the Middle Ages?

The Church, in medieval times, was not monolithic, as many people assume it was. From the earliest times, there were sects, some heretical and some not. The one early orthodox group was the Celtic Church, which merged with the Roman Church during the period after the Council of Whitby of 664. Other early churches still exist, such as the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Oriental Orthodox Church, both of which date from antiquity. Heretical groups were numerous, and perhaps the most notable was the Cathars, against whom the Roman Church launched the Albigensian Crusade. The Catholic Church itself consisted of two parts, the Latin speaking West and the Greek speaking East. Relations between these two parts were often strained and finally broke in 1054, when the Patriarch of Constantinople refused to swear allegiance to the Pope in Rome. The result was the Roman Catholic Church dominated western Europe, and the Eastern Orthodox Church operated separately in the East. Arguably, the Roman Catholic Church was the largest and most powerful, but it was never the only Church in operation.
