Yes and no actually.Depending on the age of your battery it could actually be at it's life spand and also could have a bad cell. The alternator is designed to charge the battery and as long as it is charging the battery if good should hold a charge.Sometimes a loose alternator belt or worn belt can be too weak and not alloy the alternator to charge up to capacity.I should suggest taking the car to most auto stores which do a free charging system check. This will pinpoint if you have a weak point in your battery, alternator or maybe just a bad connection or corrosion on the cables themselves.Unless you have a multimeter to check the voltage and understand how it works just take it to your local auto store (call them to verify) If they do this.
carefully with tools and the battery disconnected

alternator is probably not charging. you need to fix this NOW. new alternator is likely the only repair.
Begin by removing the 2003 Chevy Cavalier alternator belt. Remove the wiring from the back of the alternator. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new alternator.
Remove the belt from your 2002 Chevy Cavalier alternator. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the alternator. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new alternator.

2.2L Altenator on a 2.2L, AND, 2.4L on a 2.4L ONLY!
My 1997 Chevy Cavalier with 2.2L motor used a 15mm socket.
The 2001 Cavalier has the regulator built into the alternator. As this is an integrated component the alternator and regulator are changed as a single unit.
have the alternator and the battery checked
