You're probably better off staying with the same size, due to the bass box configuration. You could upgrade the woofer, same size, but make sure you have sufficient depth in the stock bass box to fit. I replace mine with the same diameter JVC, it was a little taller and but I was able to make it work by turning the gasket upside down to give an extra 1/4" of spacing.

The sub harnesses go bad and lose their ground and must be replaced. This sub harness contains the light sockets for the rear lights. there is one on each side of the car. I've had to replace mine twice.
