Yes. There are many African Americans with extremely light and fair skin. Many people of African lineage are so fair that they have lived in the white world and their friends and sometimes family have no idea they have African heritage. There have been some very interesting documentaries produced on the topic. Modern DNA testing has shown that most African Americans have European ancestors which was, in most cases, not by choice.
Passing as white has always been a way for light skinned African Americans to gain opportunities that would otherwise be denied. There are stories of slaves who escaped slavery because they could pass as white.
