Did you give a written notice? And did you keep a copy? This issue sounds like a manager was making trouble because of personal issues. If the manager fired you, he must give you a written copy of the termination. That means that he has filed formal firing papers, and it also means that you get to file for unemployment.
Is it legal? Well, yes. But it is not very smart on his/her part because now you can file against the firm for unemployment compensation. You were willing to leave and had voluntarily given notice. Unless the firing was for moral turpitude (you were stealing) there has been a rather stupid mistake made on the firm's part.
Contact the higher up in this case. If that is not possible, and you have no other job offer to go to, file for the unemployment! They have to pay it, so go for it. One piece of advice: always keep a copy of official correspondence for legal purposes. It can come in handy for situations just like this.
No, but you can be fired after putting in your two weeks notice.
well no
You were not fired. Giving two weeks notice is a courtesy given to an employer so that can start the search for a replacement and they are not short-handed during that time. However, since you are quitting, the company doesn't not have to keep you around for those two weeks and could exercise the option to not have you come in at all.
were they upset about you not giving them a 2 weeks' notice? if so, probably not. it really wasn't professional. :-/
There is no state law which requires one to give two weeks notice before leaving a job. However, if, when hired for that job, you signed a contract stating you would give at least two weeks notice if you left the position, the company could sue you for breach of contract if you leave without giving two weeks notice. But for most jobs, it's simply a matter of professional courtesy to give at least two weeks notice prior to leaving a job.
you have been fired
If a person signed a contract that stated they are required to pay for daycare after giving 2 weeks notice then they are responsible for paying. If there was no written contract or the written contract does not clearly state the termination fees then they may not have to pay.
