If you don't have a license for him to sign at the time of the ceremony, it cannot be recorded and so from a legal sense, you will not be married--except in your hearts.

Answer

No. You must have a valid marriage license in order to get married. The license must be signed by the official who performs the marriage and the license must be returned to the clerk's department that issued it. If there is no marriage license there is no marriage.

The parents have to appear at the time the minor applies for the marriage license. If the minor receives a license to marry then the ceremony can be done by a judge or magistrate. The licensing clerk can inform the couple of the cost of a civil ceremony.

Can you get married in the Marion County jail?

Yes. You must have a court order from a judge to get married. You also must schedule it through the chaplain's office at the jail, although they will not perform the ceremony. You can contact a judge or wedding officiant to perform the ceremony at the jail, if approved by the chaplain office.

Can you use a Louisiana marriage license in Oklahoma?

No. If you obtain the marriage license in Louisiana, you must get married in the State of Louisiana. There are no residency requirements. You can get married in any parish in the state. You will have to get the marriage license 3 prior to the ceremony. This can be waived by a judge or justice of the peace authorized to perform the ceremony. The license is valid for 30 days from the date of issuance. In Oklahoma, there are no residency requirements either, but the marriage must be performed in the State of Oklahoma. You must apply for the license no more than 10 days before the ceremony. There is no waiting period required except for those under the age of 18. If under age 18, there is a 72 hour waiting period. Good Luck!

If a marriage license is only valid for 3 months and you do not officially get married are you still married when the license expires?

No. Obtaining a marriage license doesn't mean you're married. You must take your marriage license with you and arrange to have the ceremony performed by some person permitted in your state to perform marriages (city clerk, justice of the peace, priest, minister, judge, etc.). That person must sign the marriage license and return it to the town clerk where it was issued. If your marriage license expired before you used it to get married then you need to start all over again and apply for a new one.

Are you married if you didn't sign anything when the judge was present?

In my experience, a marriage ceremony would involve signing the marriage register.

Can you use passport instead of birth certificate for getting married in California?

In California, you are required to show valid photo ID, such as a passport, driver's license, state ID card, or military ID to obtain a public or confidential marriage license. Some counties may also require a copy of your birth certificate. For a public marriage license, you must be at least 18 years old. Minors must have written consent from at least one parent and permission from a California Superior Court Judge. Both parties must appear together at any County Clerk's Office to apply for the marriage license. You can have the ceremony anywhere in the state. You must have at least one witness present at your ceremony. For a confidential marriage license, you must be 18 years old. Minors cannot purchase a confidential marriage license. You must be living together as spouses and must sign an affidavit attesting to those facts. You must also be married in the county where the license is issued. No witnesses are required. If either of you have been married before, you will need to provide the specific date the marriage ended, and how it ended (death, dissolution, divorce, or nullity). Some counties may also require a copy of the final judgement if the marriage ended by dissolution or nullity. The license is valid for 90 days from the date of issuance. The fees and hours for obtaining a marriage license vary by county. Best of luck!

Can you get married in Missouri and then have a more formal ceremony in Nevada or California?

Short answer- yes. You can go to a Justice of the Peace (judge) in Missouri and then hold a formal ceremony anywhere else in the country. If you are both U.S. citizens and planning on a heterosexual marriage, then the legal marriage (in MO) will be legal in all 50 states. If only one of you is a U.S. citizen, there may be additional paperwork for the other person. Check with the marriage license office in Missouri. Planning a formal ceremony doesn't require a legal officiant. This happens all the time - where people get married officially months before the big wedding. My husband and I did this and it worked beautifully. We got married before a justice of the peace on a Monday morning - just the two of us (plus witnesses!). And then six months later- it was the big formal ceremony! Communicate with whoever your officiant is about what you want and you'll be fine.

Can you get married at the New York Public Library?

It is possible to have a civil ceremony there with the mayor, a judge, etc. officiating. It is also possible to have the reception at the library. The website also suggests Bryant Park as a possibility for the ceremony, if you want it to be at all religious.
