I'm not sure if it depends on the state but based on my knowledge you can not if you are checked by dot they go by your weight of the vehicle or the tottal gwr witch ever is grater so if you have a class B you are limited to a certain anouby of where as with a class A you are not and since most tractors are rated for 80,000 lbs you will be in violation without a class A
Yes
A bobtail can be driven with a Class B CDL, but if you're driving tractor-trailers for a living, you'd have a Class A CDL, anyhow.
no, because a tractor is not allowed on a highway even if you do have a license to drive
One with no trailer. When you go to a truck stop, a lot of them have "bobtail parking" areas. They don't want you to park the tractor itself in a place a tractor with a trailer can fit, so they'll take the real short areas and designate them "bobtail parking" zones.
can a person temporarily drive a tractor on a highway with a driver license
A 'bobtail' is a colloquial term for the cab/tractor of a semi-truck. Therefore, the sign "No Bobtail Parking", for example, indicates no parking of semi cabs allowed.
yes
Yes
That would vary, but a hiway tractor with a sleeper would average about 17000-19000lbs.
yes
You can operate any motor vehicle of which you are liscensed to drive. So, you may drive a car to your tractor-liscense test, but not a tractor. (provided you have a drivers liscense)
No, you'll get a heavy fine.
A commercial drivers license or CDL is required to drive semi trucks, tractor trailers, and eighteen-wheelers. Most companies will require a minimum amount of experience or graduation from a truck driving school. Each state has slightly different requirements for their CDL so make sure you check your own state's requirements.
