It depends on where you are. In the U.S. each state sets its own regulation for gun permits, so it depends on where you are. In most states, hospitals are not off limits by law, however, many states allow, by law, businesses to post signs stating no guns are allowed. So, in most states, unless there is a sign posted at a particular location, it is perfectly legal to take a gun into a hospital, if you can otherwise legally carry said gun. That said, however, if you carry a gun into a hospital unconcealed, you will probably be detained by security or asked to leave.
To further confuse things, having a sign posted may or may not carry any legal weight, depending on state law. If there is a sign posted, in some states, all they can ask you to do is leave, but in some states, you can be arrested.
