That will depend on what you want to do. If you are in Excel saving as a standard Excel file, you don't need to change the file type. It is only if you want to save into a different format, that you would change the File Type. What you change it to, would depend on what you need. You might want to change to a different version of Excel or maybe into a completely different format, such as a text file. If you are working in a different application, saving something to be used in Excel, then again it will depend on what format you actually need.
When you click on "Save as", click on "Save as type..." at the bottom of the page. You can then select saving in a different format. In some cases this might slightly change the contents, depending on which format you select.

There are two methods to add a text file to a MS access Database.1) Link the text file. Go to File/Get External Data/ Link Tables. In the link file screen change the file type to Text file and then browse to the text file and select your text file. MS Access will prompt you to give the specs of the file when you are linking it. 2) Import the file to an access table. Go To File/Get external Data/ Import. In the screen change the file type at the bottom to text, and select your text file.

One of the items is the name of the default application that will open that type of file. Click that and other apps that can open the file will be listed. You can select a new app and have it open that particular file or all the files of that type. You may need an administrator's name and password to do this.
Yes. If the file ends with .zip, it is a ZIP Archive file. There is a way to change the extension, however, using an extension changer found on the internet. The filename extension (characters to the right of the dot in the file name) identifies the type of file (unless this extension is renamed by a computer user) in most cases. The type of file will identify what can use or open the file, but not necessarily what created the file.
Usually anything but .exe, but if you can tell the recipient what file type it is, you can change it to an extension that the e-mailer allows, then they can change it back and use the file.
