Best Answer

be warned vista will not do this

in the menu bar go tools>folder options>view

uncheck "hide extensions for known file types"

now all files will have 3 or more letters after a dot (example- ps1 game image.ISO .iso being disk image) now right click and click rename and type the extension you want

assuming your on windows and you just want to change what program uses it

What should the Save As file type be if saving Excel?

That will depend on what you want to do. If you are in Excel saving as a standard Excel file, you don't need to change the file type. It is only if you want to save into a different format, that you would change the File Type. What you change it to, would depend on what you need. You might want to change to a different version of Excel or maybe into a completely different format, such as a text file. If you are working in a different application, saving something to be used in Excel, then again it will depend on what format you actually need.

How do you change one type of file into a different type of file without changing the contents?

On a mac how do you change the default?

The default application that opens a file type can be found and changed for any file. Click the file and press command i. A window will open with information (i) about the file. One of the items is the name of the default application that will open that type of file. Click that and other apps that can open the file will be listed. You can select a new app and have it open that particular file or all the files of that type. You may need an administrator's name and password to do this.

Is the last 3 characters that follow the file name that identify the type of program used to create the file?

Yes. If the file ends with .zip, it is a ZIP Archive file. There is a way to change the extension, however, using an extension changer found on the internet. The filename extension (characters to the right of the dot in the file name) identifies the type of file (unless this extension is renamed by a computer user) in most cases. The type of file will identify what can use or open the file, but not necessarily what created the file.

What are the file formats that can we send as attachments in an email?
