Cooking a Turkey CrownThe turkey crown is the top part of the turkey. Some people refer to the crown as the turkey with just the legs removed, but most often the underparts have been cut away and it comes with the bone (not boneless).

Turkey crowns are smaller, much quicker to cook, and easier to carve (no worrying about appendages).

One downside to turkey crowns is that they can be far more expensive than buying a whole turkey.

Cooking Tips

According to the website PracticallyEdible.com:

'You may wish to wrap the Turkey Crown in tin foil for the first half of the cooking time to help keep the meat moist. Wrap it so that the join is at the top of the bird, so that you can easily open it up for the second half of the cooking for browning. Cook at 350 F (175 C). If covered, allow 18 minutes per pound / 450g. If uncovered, allow 15 minutes per pound / 450g. When done, the temperature should be 170 F (77 C) in the deepest part of the meat. Allow to rest 30 minutes, covered, outside the oven when done before serving.'

Most turkeys will have a pop-up timer included, just wait until it pops up indicating the internal temperature is high enough. I have found that you may need to rotate the turkey for it to cook even.

Answer # 2

Cook one hour on high to kill germs then turn it down, plan on 8 - 10 hours and check the popper. I You won't have to rotate it if you cook it long enough.

You may want to consider used snow removal equipment, if you are seeking inexpensive. A large pawn shop in your area will more than likely have these items. If not, you can check with Lowes, Walmart and/or Home Depot in their equipment department.
