alternator does not rotate
Expert Common Knowledge happened in 1992.
Get a "multimeter" which is a device that measures many electrical currents and put the positive and negatives on the corisponding terminals of the alternator you should be getting a reading of 12 to 14 volts if this doesn't happen then your alternator is'nt working properly
Alternators are not only driven by turbines, they can be alternator can be driven by any prime mover -including 'motors' if necessary.
replace the alternator
check your brake pads
either your belt is loose or alternator is faulting out go to nearest part store and have it tested for most accurate test remove alternator from vehicle I've had that happen before and in the vehicle alternator tested good. removed from vehicle it tested bad. replace alternator no further problems
Not very common but can happen. Perhaps 1 out of 50??
If you do not dissconnect the battery, you will blow the main fuse usaly located in the engine compartmet.
If you are careful and do not let the positive cable to the alternator come in contact with the motor or frame, nothing will happen. It is just a lot easier and safer to disconnect the positive cable from the battery. It saves possibly shorting out the cable and possible ruining the battery.
If you were to be able to decrease the amount of regulation in an alternator, the voltage outputs would become unstable and probably ruin the battery or any devices that run directly from the alternator source. I am not saying that it will happen but it certainly would effect the systems in some way.
That would happen if the alternator is over or under charging.
