Not necessarily. I had an ectopic pregnancy that was not discovered until my 1st ultrasound at 10 weeks. I had no pain or bleeding at all.
A normal pregnancy lasts 10 months since it's 40 weeks.
Yes it most definitely could be ectopic. You need to get a pelvic ultrasound done. The radiologist will see changes in the lining of your uterus if it is possibly a normal pregnancy. If it is ectopic, there will be no changes to your uterus (prepping for the baby, etc.) They also may be able to see the ectopic pregnancy through an ultrasound. Do not wait to find out about this. It could be life threatening to you.
Yes it is possible to have an ectopic pregnancy and have a negative pregnancy test, it is also possible to have a healthy pregnancy and have a positive pregnancy test in the first 10 days after a missed period. Pregnancy test kits are each calibrated to different levels of sensitivity and you have to ensure you are using a quality test, which is calibrated to detect reliably levels of hCG (the hormone, made in pregnancy.) This kind of pregnancy is called a heterotopic pregnancy and they are very very very rare. I found out I was pregnant in March 2008 and they didn't find out I had a heterotpic pregnancy until May when I had my right tube removed after it burst. Like I said though it is VERY rare so it's not something a normally healthy woman needs to worry about. If you want to know the risk factors just google them. I found everything I needed to answer my questions once I knew what the pregnancy was called. Good luck! I just had an emergency c-section as I had a uterine and ectopic pregnancy. I was having severe shoulder pain and what I thought were braxton hicks contraction for months. I made it to 30 weeks unaware that I had an ectopic pregnancy. I had ultrasounds, blood work and all the work ups but the Dr. never saw the ectopic pregnancy. I had my fallopian tube rupture and nearly died from the blood loss. My uternie pregnancy survived at 30 weeks but the path report showed an 8-10 week ectopic pregnancy in the ruptured fallopian tube. My dr. went back and looked at the orignal ultrasound and didnt find an ectopic pregnancy at that time. So I got pregnant several months after already being pregnant. The Dr's had never seen this and said it is extremly rare and that most ruptured fallopian tubes kill the mother. Had it happened weeks earlier both myself and my little boy would have died. So, the answer is yes this can happen as I am living proof.
Usually the conditions that can kill the mother is not from the fetus but continuing the pregnancy leads to her not getting the treatment for something she has will kill her so therefor an abortion is necessary. A pregnant woman should be offered a dating scan when she is 10-13 weeks and 6 days pregnant. You can see a ectopic pregnancy but they have usually already been revealed due to pain and fever by then. An ectopic pregnancy will kill the mother if not aborted.
Yes, a normal gestation can vary between 38 and 40 weeks for a baby born at term.
Yes you can, I am and I'm 10 weeks.
No. 37-42 weeks is the normal frame. About 44 weeks (10 months) is the longest verified pregnancy as the placenta starts to deteriorate after 42 weeks.
Ectopics can rupture anytime between 4 - 12 weeks, most commonly between weeks 7 - 10. If the ectopic is diagnosed early it can be treated without surgery and without the risk of death. It is essential if you have any symptoms of an ectopic you seek medical advice in the first instance.
Most definitely when you consider the size that the foetus would be at that stage of development, in fact I would think that you would have had some serious complications before it got to that stage in the pregnancy. I was 10 weeks and they said I was lucky the tube had not ruptured already. If you suspect from the symptoms you are experiencing that you are suffering an ectopic pregnancy I would contact your dr immediately.
I had a scan the same as you, the bloodtests showed pregnancy but when I went for the ultrasound they couldn't find a sack. It turned out it was an ectopic pregnancy. My suggestion, get it checked out straight away.
