Well I have been onSynthroid since last November. I did start to feel better right away but the weight lossis still an effort. I did lose about 13 lbs on Atkins in the first four or five weeks (stayed on induction phase the whole time) I was also exercising every day. I have not gained any back but now I am loosing very slowly and am going off the diet for a week or two hoping to jump start the weight loss again. To answer your question I would say yes you can lose weight after starting synthroid but only if your thyroid is at normal levels (for me 1.21 TSH) but it won't be easy. As soon as my exercise dropped off the weight loss slowed. Also I would go to about.com there is lot of information on hypothyroidism there.
hyperthyroidism
Hyperthyreosis and premedication to thyreoidectomy and radioiodine-therapy.
Propylthiouracil (PPU) is used to treat hyperthyroidism.
If you are taking synthroid it is very important to have your thyroid levels (TSH, T4, T3, Free T) monitored via bloodwork, synthroid is a synthetic hormone that is used to treat typically hypothyorid (low thyroid) these hormones can effect your heart via your metabolic rate so the importance of monitoring this level is essential please follow up ASAP with your doctor.
i can't fully answer your question because the idea that the synthroid i was taking has been the cause of two large dark brown spots on both sides of my face which I've had to repeatedly treat with painfull laser treatment, not to mention the others located in various spots, is new to me. That being said, i did find the following comment on a web page. "L-tyrosine is converted by skin cells into melanin, the dark pigment that protects against the harmful effects of ultraviolet light. Thyroid hormones, which have a role in almost every process in the body, also contain tyrosine as part of their structure." and since synthroid is a replacement for thyroid hormones, I'm guessing its a yes. and if you do decide to treat the spots, if they are the same as mine, regular laser treatments do not work, you have to get the ones for hard to treat ones. its supposedly similar to a pregnancy mask.
There is no formula to determine the amount of thyroid hormone replacement required for a given TSH level. Some clinicians might not even treat a TSH of 5.62. The decision, starting dose, and rate of recheck and titration will depend on the patient's age, sex, medical history, digestive tract, medication compliance habits, fertility status, cardiac status, and other factors.
No, it is not consider a weight loss food unless you had a minuscule portion. Save it as a treat for when you have lost some weight. .

Treat them like normal children just because they have weight issues it does not mean that they are people to be mistreated and if they get really annoying do what you what do if someone annoyed you.
Alzheimer's commonly causes weight loss. Some medications that are used to treat Alzheimer's such as zyprexa and seroquel are know to cause weight gain.
The medications to treat diabetes do not necessarily cause weight gain. In many cases, individuals who are starting treatment for diabetes were already in a weight gain mode (ie, they were storing more calories than they were burning) and that trend continues after they start taking the medications.
