Definitely. I did it and was losing weight much faster. Whats great about it is that you know what you have to do and you can follow the rule easily. I found a book online called Fast 5 and it talks about picking five hours a day in which to eat-- say 5-10 at night. Thats the only time you can eat. This diet works great.

Other similar diets are Eat Stop Eat which just has you not eat one or two days a week.

You can Google intermittent fasting.

Not really. Weight losscomes from dieting (cutting down on calories) and exercise to burn off more calories. It is also essential and key to eat a healthy, balanced diet for effective and safe weight loss.

nope. you have to eat three square meals every day, follow the pyramid.

I would offer a different view and say "Yes" you can lose weight - and the idea that you have to eat three meals a day is not true - even some of the established diets use breakfast, plus a "shake" plus an evening meal. The shake usually being little more than skimmed milk, sweetener, flavouring and food colour.

If you look back to our more primitave ancestors who were more "hunter gatherer" types, they sometimes went a couple of days between HEAVY eating sessions. Even now, in many countries, breakfast is nothing more than a glass of Orange Juice - and lunch might be little more. In much of Europe, it is the evening meal which counts - and these countries TEND to have healthier people than UK / US.

You can argue it all ways on - but for people who struggle to limit food intake, one meal a day can sometimes be the only diet that they can stick to - as the stomach begins to shrink quite quickly and one decent meal can leave you feeling full enough to feel satisfied. Little nibbles throughout the day can just leave people feeling famished all day. The small meals kick start the insulin / blood sugar game and the craving starts.

If you are in good general health and have tried other ways of dieting without joy, then check with your GP just in case there is any reason why you shouldn't give it a go - and if he gives you the all clear - try it. It certainly works for some people. As for it "only burning muscle", it simply isn't true. If your evening meal has a reasonable amount of protein (and some fat) then your body is unlikely to burn much muslce at all.

Ease up on the carbohydrates. I am not saying go "Atkins" - but if you ask a chemist or physist, they will tell you that 100 surplus calories of carbohydrate will put more weight on you than 100 surplus calories of fat. The reason is simple. When you eat carbohydarate there is ONE conversion the body needs to do to convert glucose into stored fat. The process is moderately efficient - it doesn't take too much energy. However when you consume fat, the body must FIRST break it down and convert it into glucose and THEN store it as fat - it has to convert TWICE and the first is fairly inefficient.

America has a HUGE number of people on 0% fat diets - eating carbohydrates and then being genuinely amazed they are gaining fat by the kilo. Conversely, people (Spanish for example) who have very high fat levels (olive oil with everything), generally are VERY much healthier and slimmer.

Take of that what you will, but if your GP says a one-meal-a-day diet is safe for you, then give it a week and see how you go. Something tells me you will not feel weaker at the end of it (muscle wastage) but I suspect you behind and stomach will be visibly shrinking.

It is not advised. A person can not work on one meal a day.

You could say that it could cause you to gain more weight in the long run because your metabolism will slow down.

You may see slimming effects to begin with, however, as you begin to eat more normally again with more meals you will soon see the pounds pile back on again rapidly.
