The headlights are held in the open or closed position by an over-center spring. You can push the headlight up from underneath and it will stay in the open position.

Yes, they fit, but you will have to use the respective year grilles as the head light positions are different, with the 69 headlights higher and further towards the grille center than the 67/68 fenders.
I have a 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass supreme. My car has a 1968 front bumper, hood, and grill. Its mirror of your question but If a 68 can go on a 69 I wouldn't see why a 69 couldn't go on a 68.

The circuit requires the hi/lo switch. You'll need to get a replacement switch for everything to complete the headlamp circuitry.
If it is the clip I believe you are describing that comes in a hardware kit on drum brakes it is crimped on the emergency brake lever to hold it to the shoe.
'70 corvettes do have a removable crossmember, independent of transmission type. '68 and '69 corvettes have a welded crossmember for manual transmissions and removable crossmember for automatic transmissions.
