General purpose hydraulic fluids are used to operate machinery that does not normally race down the highway at 100km per hour with you behind the wheel.

Why does power steering fluid mix in radiator?
Power steering fluid, because of the friction, requires cooling. Sometimes this is done by putting cooling fins on part of the pipe that the fluid runs thru. Other times there is a small loop with cooling fins like a mini radiator next to the power steering pump. And finally the design may actually bring the power steering fluid through a loop that is actually inside the radiator to allow the coolant to cool it. The coolant and power steering fluid never mix, just exchange heat. More typically, it is actually the automatic transmission fluid lines that run to the radiator for cooling.

Well......without fluid around the pump I am sure you didn't do it any good driving it that long. May I suggest you add some Lucas Power Steering additive and some power steering fluid to your pump, usually a 20%-80% mix. I would go heavier with a 40%-60% mix and see if your power steering unit still works. I hope you fixed the leak first before following this advice.

of course not! No liquid of any type in a vehicle should MIX with another liquid. i.e. gas, transmission fluid, washer fluid, coolant, power steering fluid. You may want to investigate your problem further. but Meany fords use automatic transmission fluid in power steering pump. if it leaking out then have it checked, but if it is in the pump check owners manual and see what is suppose to be in there,

YES! Brake fluid is pretty nasty stuff. It'll eat up paint, if spilled, etc. I'd leave it to the brake reservoir only. HOWEVER, you CAN substitute Automatic Transmission Fluid for power steering fluid. Top off if in an emergency if you need to, but if you're gonna use ATF permanently, I'd flush out the power steering system first and refill with ATF so they dont mix...
