I would consult your local police station, or maybe a lawyer. But, what kind of sword? Because, the definition of "weapon" is a very broad thing. If you are looking to buy a sword online ... just keep in mind, a lot of them are stainless steel, blunted and decorative and don't really even qualify as real weapons. So ... you should be fine in that respect.
The only area I can see some fuzziness is a real carbon steel sword that is sharpened to cut. There are no Federal Laws prohibiting the use of a sword, but it really comes down to the local laws. Here in Massachusetts, there seems to be certain communities that prohibit them. And, even then, I've never seen a martial artist prohibited from using a weapon that they're training with.

It is found only in paintings of Saint Michael. He does not own a sword. The sword is a symbol of the power given to him by God. Michael is a spirit and has no need of a physical weapon.
