Can you put a female and a male bettas together?

Only for a short time to breed. Once the male has began making his bubble nest and the female is displaying horizontal lines they are ready to mate. The female will lay the eggs and the male will take an egg and place them into the different bubbles. You then need to remove the female or the male will more than likely attack her.
