An unfinished iMovie project can be saved to a disk to be worked on at a later date. A finished movie can be exported by selecting the Share menu and then Export Movie... Select a medium or large movie and export to disk to allow other people to enjoy your film on their computer or TV.

Most of the time you need to repair the permissions to get it to work.Go to Disk Utility in the Applications/ Utility'sfolder and click on repair Disk Permissions and wait 10 to 15 minutes for it to finish then restart and see if that helps.If not then go to Apple's support site and look for your model or OS version and you should find the discussions very helpful.
