Yes, you sure can put saddlebags on a 1982 Yamaha Maxim. I have the XJ550 model and it usually has the bags on. Standard leather bags simply toss over the seat and secure with the rawhide lacings onboard...usually 4 up top, 2 lower on the sides and/or 2 from the bottoms. Before I had my leather bags, I got 2 cheap backpacks from my local Goodwill and used the straps to make an over the top harness of sorts. then I used the strapping metal to make a light frame, which kept them out of the wheels and chain. These bags I installed under the seat and used bungie cords with yet another backpack on top of the seat. This was more than enough luggage for a 2 week Sturgis/mid-west adventure and has served me well more than once Christmas shopping!
the will fit but they are not the same seat. the 750 seat is just a little shorter than the 920. I put one on my 920 until I could recover the original.
No, you can not.

There's nowhere on a warrior to put a kick start on. You can get a pull start if it doesn't already have one. You can get it at your Yamaha dealer.

It's going to depend a bit on the specific bag, but a common one drapes across the frame under the seat. So, you would take the seat off, put the saddlebags across the frame, then put the seat back on. One thing to consider: you may also want saddlebag supports. Those are bits of chrome that sit between the inside of the bag and the back wheel...keeps the bag from accidentally rubbing against the back wheel.
