You cannot qualify for any of the social security disability or other social security benefits unless you have worked and paid taxes into the Old Age Survivor and Disability Insurance (FICA) (social security and Medicare taxes) program.

You may be able to qualify for the SSI program.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program is a Federal income supplement program funded by general tax revenues (not Social Security taxes):

It is designed to help aged, blind, and disabled people, who have little or no income; and

It provides cash to meet basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter.

To apply for the SSI program you will have to go to the local SSA in your area for the forms and assistance that you will need in completing the forms correctly.

Can you collect social security disability if you never worked?

Possibly. Under certain circumstances, you may qualify for Social Security disability benefits under a spouse's or ex-spouse's (if married at least 10 years) work record, or under a parent's work record if you became disabled before age 22. If you are not eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), you may be able to receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, a form of welfare that doesn't require you to have a work history. You may also qualify for other state and federal assistance. For more information, contact the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00 am and 7:00 pm EST.

How do you get disability if you have never filed taxes?

Disability and taxes are unrelated. If you were injured on the job, file with the employment security office of your state. If not, check with Social Security.

How can I Qualify for Social Security Disability?

Social security disability insurance is never a source of income that individuals want to have. However, many individuals end up with a physical or mental illness that allows them to qualify for social security disability. There are several criteria that individuals must meet before they can be approved for disability payments. First, individuals must earn credit. Workers earn credits towards social security disability based upon their income. Each year a fixed rate of dollars earned to credits is set by the Social Security Administration. For example, one year a credit may be earned for every $1,000 in income. Another year may have an individual earning one credit for every $1,500 in income. Individuals must pay social security taxes on the income in order to earn credit towards social security disability. Second, individuals must have a qualified disability. A patient cannot simply decide to enroll in social security disability because they need money. They must have a qualified disability that meets specific criteria. Individuals must be unable to return to their previous type of work, unable to change to a new job due to their medical condition and have a disability that will last at least one year or result in death. Many individuals who attempt to claim social security disability have their first claim rejected. The Social Security Administration does not want to pay out claims for individuals who are not disabled. They take extreme security measures to ensure that individuals with a bona fide disability receive the payments that they deserve. There are some conditions which are automatically approved for disability. Other conditions may require a medical examination and review before individuals will have their claim approved. Anyone filing a social security disability claim should be aware that it can take months or years in order to receive disability payments. Social security disability provides payment for the necessary items that individuals need to live their day to day lives. There are a number of diseases and medical conditions that automatically qualify an individual for social security disability. However, individuals who do not have one of these conditions but believe they are disabled may still qualify. They simply need to contact their nearest Social Security Administration for assistance filing a claim.

Can the IRS levy or garnish a Social Security Disability Settlement Check?

Social Security does not allow garnishment of disability benefits by creditors. Any credit card company, business, or individual who has won a judgment against you will never garnish your Social Security disability check.Social Security will allow garnishment of your Social Security disability benefits for current and past due child support or alimony. And the Internal Revenue Service is allowed to garnish Social Security disability and retirement benefits for delinquent taxes. Also, in addition to the IRS, other federal agencies may be allowed to garnish Social Security disability benefits. For instance, if an individual owes student loans that were federally guaranteed their Social Security disability benefit can be garnished. In theory, any money owed to the federal government can conceivably be garnished from Social Security retirement or disability checks. If you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability benefits, however, no creditor can garnish your benefit, not even the Federal Government. Since SSI is a need based disability benefit, it cannot be garnished.

Can you collect unemployment benefits while you are on Social Security for widows?

You can generally still collect unemployment while collecting social security, unless it is social security disability...even then you still might be able to. I worked for the Unemployment Office & just an FYI, they do not know if you are on social security and are unable to check, so if you do not say anything, they will never know.

When did you first borrow against social security?

Can resident alien receive social security and medicare when never employed in the us?

There are four types of social security benefits - retirement, disability, survivor and SSI (supplemental security income). Retirement and disability benefits are only available to people who worked in jobs covered by social security (for example, most government employees aren't covered by social security but most private sector jobs are). A resident alien can receive survivor benefits as the surviving spouse or child of a covered person. SSI makes payments to disabled, low income people, these benefits are unrelated to employment history. A resident alien can receive SSI, if they qualify. Medicare benefits are also unrelated to employment history. A resident alien that has legally resided for 5 years in the U.S. can receive Medicare benefits

Can you collect disablity if injured at home while not employed?

disability is a benefit for people who can never work again (example) elderly sick, heart surgery, something broken, blind, handicap etc....sounds like you looking for unemployment insurance big diff. * Social Security eligibility is based upon the number of work quarters the person has accumulated, the nature of the injury or illness, and many other factors. Supplemental Security Insurance (SSI), also under the jurisdiction of the Social Security Administration, is for disabled persons who have not been employed or do not meet SSD requirements. RRBD and other governmental disability programs are basically the same as are SSA programs. Private disability insurance is a different issue. The Social Security Administration website has all the necessary information and forms for all SS matters. Social Security Administration, http://www.ssa.gov
