Yes you can. I just did it myself.

I have a 2003 Mazda MPV. A few days ago my front AC blower stopped working on 1,2 and 3 speeds and would turn on only at 4 but then shuts off the compressor. After some research on the net, talking to the experienced mechanic and a visit to the Mazda Dealership I knew that the part that broke was the blower motor resistor and it is not sold separately - this is why it is not in the parts databases - it is a part of some plastic cover assembly behind the glovebox. The part that contains this resistor costs $99 plus tax (not including the installation). I was lucky enough to get a glance of the Mazda repair manual on how to change the resistor. Here is what you need to do:

First - Disconnect the battery by unplugging the ground (negative). Open the glove box half-way and gently pull forward the left bottom side until it pops out of the socket. The glove box is now removed. Behind it on the left side just in front, you will see a plug with 4 wires that is connected to the little plate that is being held by 2 screws. You will need a very short Philips screwdriver to undo them. Take out the plate and here it is - the front blower motor resistor. In my case I had to solder a little flexible stripe of metal back to where it was (there is some soldering residue left that gives you a hint) and plug it back in. Worked like a charm. My understanding is that this stripe of the metal was factory soldered under compression and worked like a fuse in case anything went wrong it would melt and disconnect.

A word of advise to all car owners: turn off AC, ac/heater blower, lights and radio and THEN shut off the engine. This way when you start the car - there will be less electric shock on all components and hence less chance that anything burns out.

Why would a blower not come on when the Lincoln Town Car 2000 and the motor was taken out and tested and works?

tbl could be with the blower motor speed controller. I had same tbl. Removed controller and remove cir. brd. from housing, and with a 10x or better mag. glass check connections on solder joints. mine had three joints with hairline cracks in solder joint. Re-solder and works like new again. better than $200.00 for a new controller..

How do you change heater blower motor on vauxhall frontera?

Heater blower is underneath dashboard on the left side of the glovebox in passenger footwell - 4 screws secure blower motor - undo these & pull blower assembley down, then unplug wiring. My blower simply seized up - 2 screws hold motor assembly into cover (1 screw is only seen when the block on the side of cover is prised off) Assembly can be prised away from cover & bronze bearings then cleaned & re-greased & brushes checked. Armature was a bit rough so re-cleaned carefully using drill to turn & some decent sandpaper to re-finish & slots cleaned with Stanley knife blade. There is also a resistor pack behind the glovebox which needed re-soldering. (motor seized - resistor pack heated up & melted the solder) Two screws on hinges at bottom of glovebox to undo then remove glovebox - resistor pack has two screws to undo then pull out & unplug 5 pin plug. Resistor pack says on it "do not repair" ..... I pulled mine apart - 4 crimped ends to un-crimp using small flat screwdriver - middle connector on mine had let go and had to be re-soldered back on. A metal plate is used to retain resistor pack assembly into the plastic heating vent - this shouldn't travel too far & I used a small piece of duck tape to hold this plate ready for re-fitting.

How do you remove the plugs off of the blower motor resistor for a 2003 Trailblazer?

The best way is to open the glove box and slide the catch to the side so it falls out of the way. This will expose the connection to the blower motor and is the only connection that is removeable. then just unscrew the resistor from the underside of the airbox on the passenger side ..... re-install new one. www.trailvoy.com Enthusiasts helping enthusiasts.

How do you if replacing the blower motor resistor on a 2002 Impala is necessary and what is the price range on a resistor?

I had to replace a b.m resistor on my 05 Pont. Grand Prix and it was not that difficult and saved me a bunch of money. As fas as I can tell, and as in my case, if your blower motor is staying on high (even with the key out) then you have a bad resistor. The cost of mine for the 05 was $70. It was actually cheaper at the dealership and was in stock. It was really simple to replace. On the Grand Prix it was located under the glovebox. It's not very big and should have a wiring harness running into it and then from the resistor to the blower motor. There were two screws holding it in and just the one harness to re-attach. If you have anymore questions let me know. de2jmb@yahoo.com

1998 Grand Cherokee heater fan does not work If I hit the dash board it turns on?

Fuse, blower motor resistor pack, blower motor, and blower motor switch, in that order. Failure of the blower motor connector on this model is common. Check www.wjjeeps.com for pictures and an explanation of the problem. Sometimes you can get temporary operation by jiggling the wiring connector. You also need to check for the source of the problem. It is also common for the re-circ door to break, blocking air into the fan and causing it to overheat, stressing the wiring. Check the HeaterTreater re-circ listing for diagnostic information and pictures.

How do you replace a blower motor resistor in a 1999 dodge grand caravan?

Just did it. The resistor is behind the passenger strut in the fire wall. Remove the wire from the old resistor, pull out the old resistor (held in by clips in the device. Install the new unit and re-attache wire. The space is tight and should not take you more than 30 minutes.

How do I change Blower motor in a 1988 ford bronco 2?

Locate the blower motor/wheel housing which should be on the passenger side firewall. Disconnect the battery, then the blower motor electrical. You'll probably also have to pull the air cleaner and housing from the vehicle to give yourself some working room. Follow the wiring to the resistor, and disconnect. Unscrew the blower motor plate and remove the motor. Fit the new motor to the wheel, or replace the whole unit, depending on what you've decided to do. Remove and replace the resistor -- perhaps the hardest part of the job, if the screws are rusted on. If the screws are rusted, use a pliers to break away the plastic until you can get a good bite on the screws and remove. Install new units, making all the electrical connections. Re-connect the battery to test your work. If OK, re-install the air cleaner; you've got heat.

How do you replace the blower motor resistor in a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue?

On the passenger side under the dashboard, first remove the fire panel and unclip the light. The resistor is towards the far back in the center. There are some screws that are kinda hard to get to, but it is possible. Unclip the wires on the old resistor and remove the screws and remove the resistor. Then place the new resistor where the old one was removed from and replace the screws, attach the wires. Now re-attach the light to the fire panel and replace the panel.

Why does a Ford F-350 blower motor occasionally not run?

The blower motor on a Ford F350 may occasionally not run due to a loose wire or faulty connection. This can often be corrected by re-seating the connection.

How do you replace a blower resistor on a 1998 Chevy Malibu?

This has been discussed many times here before, and I thought I would bring all of the information together in a "how-to." I have personally replaced this part with one purchased for $20-25 (Local Autostore, I.E. CarQuest, Autozone, Discount Auto) . The repair will take about 30 mins. to one hour to complete. Problem: HVAC Blower motor only works on fan settings 3, 4 & 5. Reason: Blower Motor Resistor is bad, and needs to be replaced. Affected Model Years: 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 Permanent Fix: You will need: 1/4" Socket set -or- a 3/8" set with a universal joint . 1/4 " prefered & universal with 5.5 or 6mm socket will work 1. Remove the plastic cover from the underside of the passenger dash under the Glove compartment, held in by four bolts. Note how the two air ducts on the left and top are connected, and how the other plastic cover piece is connected to the piece you are removing. This is helpful when you go to reinstall it. 1a. I found it helpful to remove the glove box. 7 easy screws and I had access to everything behind it and could see what I was doing. 2. Slide the Control Module to the right and pull it down carefully. Push it to the right being careful not to damage the wires. 2a. Control module on some cars is on the right and fit in a slot on the top of the module. This can remain where it is. 3. Remove the blower motor power cable located on the forward side of the blower near the firewall. Not necessary on some models. 4. Remove the jumper cable link to the blower motor resistor located on the resistor near the forward side of the blower. 5. Remove the blower motor held in place with three 7mm bolts. You may not need to do this, but it helps give you some room to work. It will also let see the blower motor resistor before proceeding. Not necessary on some models. Resistor is just ahead of the blower motor and removing the motor doesn't give you any more room. 6. Remove the two 5.5 mm bolts that hold the green (or blue) blower motor resistor (This will be the item you disconnect the cable from in step 4). 7. Install the new resistor using the two retained bolts. The improved part will be longer than the original, and will be black in color. Don't forget the soft gasket on the resistor. 8. Re-install the blower motor using the three retained bolts, if you removed it originally. 9. Re-connect the blower motor power, and the resistor jumper. 10. Test the blower fan settings prior to putting the dash back together. 11. Align and push the Control Module up into the slot and slide it back to the left. 11a. You will need to tie a piece of string around the hose like duct to guide it into the plastic cover on replacing, IF you have not removed the glove box. 12. Re-install the plastic cover using four retained bolts. This is where it helped to pay attention to the ducts and the other cover when removing. *Note: on the 2.4L '98 Malibu, in step #1, there are only 3 bolts & 1 duct. Steps 2 & 5 are not necessary. I recommend buying the new resistor first, or looking at a new one so you know what you're looking for.

Why doesn't any air flow out of the vents in my 2001 Honda Civic?

It depends, you should always get air from the vents when the car is in motion if the re circulation button "is not" pressed. If you mean the fan isn't working you need to check for power at the blower motor. If there is no power it could be:1.The fuse for the blower motor is blown. 2. The blower resistor is faulty 3.The control module (knob assembly) is faulty or has a faulty wire in the circuit. If you are getting power to the motor, the motor is seized/faulty.
