I believe the only thing that belt was driving is the AC compressor. Check to make sure that the belt wasn't turning anything else. If all it was driving was the compressor, and you don't need to use the ac, you can drive your car without that belt.

You cannot reroute the existing belt if you eliminate the A/C compressor from the equation as it will then be too long. You will have to get a smaller belt that will work without routing it around the A/C compressor. That may be very difficult as no Olds 88 came without A/C. Possibly you can find a belt for another vehicle with the same engine that came from the factory without A/C. Any Auto Parts store may be able to help. As long as the compressor clutch is not locked up and the bearing are good, you can just use the compressor as an idler pulley, and simply not use the A/C. Pull the fuse and unplug the clutch so it cannot be engaged.
